Dice Throne: Santa v Krampus (Kickstarter)

If you are new here, you may not be aware that every year from American Thanksgiving (or as the rest of the world calls it: “Thursday”) and Christmas, TheRatHole.ca runs a full month of holiday reviews. The nature of the industry means mostly secular-Christmas games, but we also tackle Thanksgiving, Good Friday, Boxing Day, New Years, and would love to expand that even further in the future. The celebration we love covering the most is Krampusnacht. There isn’t nearly enough Krampus content in board games, so this is an exciting Kickstarter campaign for me.

Santa vs Krampus is a reasonably standard battle setup for many games, but that doesn’t make it any less fun. One of the nice things about this particular project is that it’s not remotely standalone. There are two seasons of Dice Throne characters, plus licenced IPs, that could just as easily have Krampus square off against the Seraph or Santa could take on the Artificer, or whatever other conflict you may envision. Even with those options, if we don’t get Mrs Claus v Gingerbread Man next year I fear the Roxley and Dice Throne teams may land on my Naughty List.

Pledge levels begin at $35 (USD) to get your holiday hands on the Santa v Krampus Battle Box and the Santa’s Workshop Promo Pack for Dice Throne Adventures or $59 adds in pre-painted miniatures for DTA and character card sleeves. The Battle Box is completely playable on its own, but if you don’t have any Dice Throne and want to go all-in there is a massive $300 pledge that contains everything but the kitchen sink and a $600 pledge that even includes the sink too*.
(*not literally, of course, I hope I didn’t need to tell you that.)

The campaign runs a scant two weeks and blew away its funding goal in no time. The production timeline is equally tight, but it is completely realistic that games will arrive in time for you to hide in a corner playing this at your employer’s otherwise dull holiday party.
