One Week till Christmas is a game I’ve been excitedly looking forward to hitting Kickstarter for some time. When Russia invaded Ukraine Viva La Games made the important choice to put business aside and help with world events. Having done what they needed, the One week ’till Christmas campaign is finally live.
This is a territory control game where 2-4 teams of Elves are competing (not battling, certainly not battling) to control Santa’s work tables and make the most games. There’s an expansion for 5 & 6 players and stretch goals include some amazing looking minis. Plus the Kickstarter exclusive first player marker is a miniature of Santa, sitting and overseeing the chaos while sipping hot cocoa.
There are some sweet earlybird pledges if you are reading this CrowdfUNding Spotlight soon enough. But otherwise pledge levels start at €46 for the Base Game (which has an impressive amount of stuff), €67 adds the 5 & 6 player expansion, and €90 gets all of that plus a neoprene game mat that includes the base and expansion boards. I recommend heading over to the campaign since the contents of each version of the game are pretty voluminous.
I don’t have a ton of gameplay info, but from what I’ve seen, it seems to be fairly straightforward. In fact, One Week ’till Christmas is so straightforward that this could very much be the “gateway game” for the perfect time of year to bring new players to the table. This unsurprisingly funded within hours and I’m very excited to see it fulfilled next fall.
