Let’s start with why you are here. You want to know if Bound is worth the exorbitant £1 price, right? Well, it’s worth it and then some!
Let me tell you, I love tabletop games. I’ve been running my own website dedicated to reviewing them for more than 5 years, after reviewing them for another site for almost as long. I don’t even remember how long I’ve been doing freelance demo work, at this point. As much as I love most types of games, abstract strategy games are my absolute favourite. So when the opportunity to preview Bound came up, I was thrilled.
Bound is a straightforward game, on a simple playing space, printed on a stunning autumn-themed background. The playing space is a small pentagon, connected to the inside of a star, connected to the inside of a circle. Both players have four markers, which they will be moving along the lines, stopping at the intersecting points. A marker is bound if the three points surrounding it are occupied, preventing it from being moved. If your marker becomes bound, you lose. Completely straightforward and plays super fast. I love it.
Something important to remember is that Bound is exclusively a print-and-play product. The first thing that means, is that the players must provide their own markers. Four apiece. Anything small will do, I used small glass stones. The board is a single page, and Kickstarter backers will get both a full-colour version and a low-ink version.
I’m not normally a fan of print-and-play games, but with only a single page to print, you simply won’t find a game as good as Bound for a more affordable price.
