Okay, so here we are. Let this be an admission of shame. We all have a “shelf of shame” full of games not played, or in my case not yet reviewed. Teatime Adventures has been one of those games. But at the same time, I’ve probably made more content from Teatime Adventures than most other games.
That content includes YouTube Shorts of me baking Cornbread and Oakenbread recipes in the Core Rulebook, with another Short coming that had a catastrophic pastry failure, but that I hope to re-record before the current campaign ends. I may or may not also have plans for the individual Strawberry Shortcakes from Cozy Companion.
Stop stop stop. Rewind. Did I say recipes in the rulebook? What is a Cozy Companion? Elaborate.
Sure. Yes, I did say recipes in the rulebook. Real recipes that you can make at home, not some fantastic fake recipes with fantasy ingredients. Go watch the shorts. (Maybe subscribe so you don’t miss the next ones.) Cozy Companion is a bi-monthly print magazine from the amazing folx at Snowbright Studio that is full of amazing awesomeness. I blew through Issue #1 and Issue #2 in no time at all. I was generously given a review copy of Issue #3, but circumstances and other deadlines have kept me from doing more than glance at it. If you’re reading this on the day it comes out, yesterday will have been International Talk Like A Pirate Day and hopefully I will be talking about Issue #3 in upcoming Friday RPG slot.
Anywho, all of that manic rambling is merely exposition to why we are all here. Teatime Adventures Second Edition, live (and already funded) on Backerkit!
The new edition has some new rules, new recipes, and an entirely new system for Harmony Magic. The original system to resolve magic in the First Edition was a very unique tile-placing mechanic. But unique isn’t always what players want, and in Second Edition magic will be handled with a pool of dice instead. The original D20-based system gets the screws tightened a bit but will remain easy to learn and easy to adapt or merge with other systems. There is also a new way to play solo, inspired by cozy video games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, along with the world-building game The Quiet Year. All told there are four new books to cozy up with.
Pledge levels begin at $15 (USD) for a PDF copy of any one of the new books, or $25 per physical book. For $150 you get all four books in Hardcover and PDF, a set of hand-painted D6 dice for the new Harmony Magic system, an oversized D20 with black tea leaves in it, a GM Screen, 5 maps, all packed into a fancy display box. Jumping up to $250 adds six custom tea blends and a Rose Possum tea pet plushy, and $500 gets you everything Snowbright except the office cat. (As much as cats love attempting to be packed, Ryla has reviews to write for the next Cozy Companion.)
I can’t properly express quickly just how much I love Snowbright Studio’s approach to their products and all-around corporate culture. The First Edition of Teatime Adventures’ box set sold out all over the place. There’s a good reason for that. You may be looking at the box set price compared to the per-book cost, and wonder if it’s worth it. Only you can properly decide that, but I say yes. No matter which pledge level you decide on, you’re in for a giant treat.
You can back the Teatime Adventures: Tea Pets campaign on Backerkit until October 10, 2023.
You can all sorts of cozy things from Snowbright Studio online at www.snowbrightstudio.com or on Facebook at facebook.com/SnowbrightStudio.
