Get Ready for RPG-a-Thon 2024!

I love a local game convention, and I’m excited for this year’s RPG-a-Thon, running July 13 and 14 at the Lynnwood Community League here in Edmonton. Two days of tabletop games, LARP, and nerdy merch await Edmonton’s gaming community!

Tabletop gaming sessions span both days and feature familiar favourites like Pathfinder, D&D5e, and Hero Clix, as well as more indie offerings like Dread, One Deck Dungeon, and Goat Crashers. Your $20 fee lets you sign up for as many games as you wish, and once you’re registered (follow the instructions at the bottom of the Game Line-up page) you can start grabbing empty seats. Only one seat per table, though, your friends will have to get their own.

When you aren’t at the gaming table there’s still plenty to see and do. The Dark Ascension LARP team is on hand all weekend to answer your questions and run demos, allowing a look inside that hobby. And if you want to commemorate your LARP experience, or just grab some photos for you and your friends, check out the BWD Photo booth. Forgot your dice or want to grab something you enjoyed playing? Pe Metawe Games has you covered as the official tabletop games seller for the weekend.

These aren’t the only merchants by far! The Merchant Alley features local tabletop adjacent artisans such as Geek Notions, Hinkypunk Emporium, and Tiffany Tate, to name a few. If you’re looking for more books to fill your hours and shelves (and who isn’t), fantasy author JM Shaw will be there to sort you out. Plus tea leaf readings, TTRPG accessories, and nerdy crafts galore; you’ll want to pack your wallet and bring home something cool.

And if all that weren’t enough, there’s a weekend-long silent auction packed with donated items, perfect for adding a little treasure to your hoard while supporting excellent organizations such as Tiny HeartsCan Foundation, The Pride Centre of Edmonton, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, and the Stollery Children’s Hospital with the help of wonderful people at Edmonton Extra Life!

It’s a weekend packed with tabletop gaming goodness, and it all starts when you check out the RPG-a-Thon website and get registered! While tickets are available at the door, pre-reg will give you a leg up on playing the games you want and making sure you don’t miss the action.

And if you see me or any of the other TheRatHole.ca crew there, say hello!
