Blinks (Party Pack Kickstarter)

Blinks. Such a simple name for a game system that packs a punch. Move38 is one of those very VERY few companies that successfully manages to blend technology and tabletop in a way that truly shines. –No wait, check that– in a way that truly glows. (Much better.)

Ok, full disclosure, I just lifted that whole paragraph from yesterday’s CrowdFUNding PREVIEW of Tangle and Mimic, two of the five new Blinks games being offered as part of this campaign. But I hate to let a cheesy opening like that go after only one use.

But yes, yesterday I previewed Tangle and Mimic, and you may want to go read that HERE. I’m not going to go through the other games, but Lazy Ants is a bluffing game about “finishing” your tasks so you can be lazy. The remaining two games won’t be publically announced until later in the campaign or earlier as “social stretch goals.”

Pledge levels seem pricey, but not when you consider what you are getting, so I’m going to format this a bit differently than I normally do.
-$59 USD gets the Part Pack Expansion, alone, which has Blinks with five games. It’s important to remember that most of these games are best played with at least 14 individual Blinks.
-$99 gets the Blinks Game System base set. This has nine individual Blinks with nine different games.
-$149 gets both the base set and the Party Pack Expansion
-$399 is the “Go Big” level. It gets you every Blinks set to date (including the Party Pack), totalling 40 individual Blinks with 40 games.
Basically, you are looking at $10 per game, regardless of the pledge level, and that isn’t an unreasonable cost.

The planned fulfilment date on these is September, but with the convention season being what it is, I’m confident that includes a fairly large time buffer. For the price per game, it’s a good deal, and if you’re into design and coding it’s also all open source and Move38 you can even add Development Kit onto your pledge if you don’t already have what need for that.

It’s also not a secret that Move38 is in beta testing for their Near-field communication (NFC) enabled Blinks Link, which will make it easier than ever to get new games from them, and from the online community, in the future. So picking up a good set now is just good planning.

You can back the Blinks Game System & New Party Expansion on Kickstarter until March 23, 2022 and find Move38 online at move38.com or on Facebook at facebook.com/move38inc.
