Goblin Firework Fight

As I discovered one bright and shiny Free RPG Day, one of the only big things that made me sad about Pathfinder’s move to a Second Edition, was the loss of the Licktoad Tribe and the We Be Goblins series of Free RPG Day adventures. While I love the kobolds that have replaced them, it simply isn’t the same.

Then I was handed the little box of delight that is Goblin Firework Fight. Can it replace the joy of crashing through the town of Sandpoint raiding and ransacking? No, those are the Three Rs of Goblin education, after all. Yes, I’m aware that is only two things. These are goblins, be happy they both start with R.

Alright, enough attempting to be witty. Goblins hate witty. What goblins LOVE is fireworks. Generally, they just love watching things explode and burn. Mostly the burning part.

There are two ways to play the game, basic and advanced. The basic game uses basic, generic, goblins. The advanced game, however, gives every player a specific goblin with a unique ability that may be used once per game. There are also a few other changes, but nothing earth-shattering. Both versions have players looting treasure from the town of Sandpoint and/or stealing it from one another, for 10 rounds plus an extra round of stealing at the end.

The basic goblins are basic, but I love that the advanced goblin cards give you the opportunity to once again play as the heroes (and villains) of the Licktoad goblin tribe. I equally love that Squealy Nord the pig has returned to throw the game into chaos. Slime Life Games has basically written a love letter to fans like me while making sure the game is simple and accessible to other people who don’t know the history of the characters.

This is a game that is easy to learn and fast to play. 100% I would pull this out as a time filler waiting for my Pathfinder TTRPG players to arrive, or just as a quick game in a night of quick games. Don’t think too hard (again, goblins hate that) and just enjoy it.
