Project Ironside (Kickstarter)

Cloud Puncher Games likes to describe themselves as a “whimsical, experimental gaming company”. The most unique part of the experiment is that none of their projects are actually games; they prefer to focus on high quality game accessories. These include Box Throne (a shelf system), Token Sesame (game component trays), Playmat Hero (a “scroll rack” for your rolled up Neoprene mats) and The Finger of Destiny (an adorable First Player selector). Let’s just say they’ve been busy, and now they are back with their most ambitious Kickstarter yet.

Project Ironside is a full size, expandable metal-frame gaming table with a recessed play area, adjustable height, accessories like cup holders and deck trays, a soft surface to play on, and most impressive of all, a solid wood “table topper” that lets you have a nice formal dinner while saving your gameplay for later. Oh, and did I mention that those same “toppers” can also be given legs to become benches, side tables or elevated platforms? Are you a party game party animal and you need more than Three Feet by Five Feet of space? You can get a Two Foot Table Extender, or just buy two tables and attach the frames together into either a Three Foot by Ten Foot or Six Foot by Five Foot configuration. Don’t have a full time Game Room? It can all be taken apart or put together in minutes with basic tools. And how much would you be expected to pay for all this? Thousands? How about Hundreds. But let’s get more specific.

Level one: a single table including a double sided Neoprene mat, for $399US

Level two: two tables with mats, for $795US

Level three: four tables with mats, for $1589US

Add-ons:

  • Table Toppers in your choice of Oak, Cherrywood, or Walnut, with 16 metal legs, for $395
  • Ironside Extender Kit, for $129US
  • Table Connector Kit, for $129US
  • A pair of Cup Holders, for $29US
  • A 6 piece Cup Holder Bundle for $69US
  • A pair of Deck Trays for $19US
  • A 6 piece Deck Tray Bundle for $49US
  • A pair of Token Sesame “bit holders” for $19US
  • A 6 piece Bundle of “bit holders” for $49US
  • A Token Sesame Art Plate kit for $29US
  • Two hooks and two tote bags for $19US
  • A set of 10 Arm Rests for $59US
  • Hole Covers (for people who don’t like accessories) for $15US
  • The Accessory ULTRA BUNDLE (cup holders, deck holders, bit holders, arm rests, hooks and hole covers) for $249US
  • One double-sided artistic playmat for $59US
  • Three double-sided artistic playmats for $159US
  • The Playmat Hero mat storage system for $29US

The shipping cost is no small thing, considering the size and weight of what is being offered, but not unreasonable. Canada is listed as “Zone 2” for shipping and you can get a table shipped for $169, a Topper set for $69 and the Accessory Ultra Bundle for somewhere between $25 and $35. They also promise zero import fees or duty fees for Canada, the US, the UK, the EU, and Australia. Once again, they warn that items will not be shipped to Post Office Box addresses in any country.

Please note that Cloud Puncher chose not to have any Early Bird Pricing for this campaign. Instead, there is a “first come first served” delivery system. This means that production will take place in multiple “waves”, and the earlier you pledge, the sooner you will receive your products. The project was fully funded in approximately ten minutes, and as of the time of writing, has earned close to $1.5 Million US (and that’s with only about two thousand backers).

You can back this campaign on Kickstarter until October 12th, 2022, or visit the Cloud Puncher website at cloudpunchergames.com to look at their other products.
