Are you a fan of Indiana Jones, and that style of pulpy action that inspired his movies? The team at Variable Outcomes clearly is, as they show with their new release The Adventures of Tennesse James. Tennessee James is a famous archaeologist and adventurer, who is off on expeditions to find fortune and glory. He’s not alone, however, as there are other adventuring archaeologists doing the same. Utah Smith, Texas Moore, Missouri Williams, Rhode Island Williams, and others are all leading their own teams searching pyramids, temples, and ruins for riches. Who can survive the traps, obstacles, and each other, and get out alive to gain your fortune and glory?
With four unique boards, ten characters, and all sorts of adventures to be had, every game will be a blast.
The gameplay is fairly straightforward. The Characters and Team Members you have in play determine how many actions you get in a turn. The basic actions are Move or Draw a Card. When you move onto a tile you reveal it and if it’s a Treasure you keep it as a reward. But if it’s a Trap you’ll need to play cards to defeat it, while your opponents can play cards to make it more challenging. If you end up sharing a space with another player, you can fight them to take their stuff.
Pledges start at $55 (CDN) for the game. $80 adds in 25 Map Tiles, and extra Treasures and Traps, so you can create your own unique gameplay experience. Finally, $105 adds in their delightful game, Witchful Thinking to the cauldron.
